Hi, I’m Animesh Chatterjee.

I am an historian of science, technology and the environment, with particular interests in the history of electricity, material culture, and weather and weathering in colonial India and, specifically, colonial Calcutta.

From March 2023 to March 2025, I was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellow, and Principal Investigator of “Weathering Colonial Calcutta” at the Greenhouse Center for Environmental Humanities, Universitetet i Stavanger.

Prior to joining Stavanger, I was a Postdoctoral Researcher in the European Research Council-funded project A Global History of Technology, 1850-2000 at Technische Universität Darmstadt.

About Research Notes Studio

At a time when universities face shrinking resources, fierce competition for funding, and increasing demands for public engagement, the way research is written and presented matters more than ever.

Having learnt from some of the leading scholars in the history of science, medicine and technology, colonial and postcolonial studies, and the environmental humanities, I recognise both the creative and strategic sides of research communication

Research Notes Studio brings my experience in academic research, writing, and successful funding applications to help your research and ideas find their clearest and strongest form in a changing academic landscape.

My Approach

Every project at Research Notes Studio begins with understanding your research, your field, and your goals. I take the time to understand not only what you want to say, but also how you want it to sound and who you want it to reach. From there, I work collaboratively to refine your writing, improving structure, clarity and flow, while keeping your unique voice intact. Whether working on a journal article, editing a book manuscript, or developing a funding proposal, the aim remains simple: to help your research stand out and make an impact.
